How the CRS score works
The Comprehensive Ranking System gives every Express Entry candidate a score out of 1,200. IRCC invites the highest-ranked candidates in each round.
Your score has four parts. Core points come from your age, education, language test results and Canadian work experience: up to 500 for a single applicant or 460 with a partner. A partner coming with you can add up to 40. Skill transferability rewards combinations, such as a degree with strong language scores, up to 100. Additional points, up to 600, come from a provincial nomination, French skills, Canadian education or a sibling in Canada.
Language is the part most people can still change. Going from CLB 8 to CLB 9 in all four skills adds 32 core points for a single applicant, and can double the transferability points for education and foreign work.
Maximum points by part

Questions
How is the CRS score calculated?
It adds four parts: core points for age, education, language and Canadian work experience (up to 500, or 460 with a partner), up to 40 for a partner, up to 100 for skill transferability, and up to 600 additional points. The maximum is 1,200.
Is this CRS calculator accurate?
It uses IRCC’s published CRS criteria and test equivalency tables, and we tested it on 24 profiles against IRCC’s own tool: every total and subtotal matched. It is still an estimate: only IRCC decides your score.
What is a good CRS score in 2026?
It depends on the draw. In August and September 2026, Canadian Experience Class rounds invited scores of about 518 to 523, French-language rounds about 382 to 391, and most other category rounds 389 to 476 (one physicians round went down to 198). Provincial nominee rounds are higher because a nomination adds 600 points.
Do job offers still give CRS points?
No. Since March 25, 2025, IRCC no longer gives CRS points for job offers. A job offer can still be part of your eligibility for some programs.
How many CRS points is IELTS or CELPIP worth?
Each skill is scored on its own. For a single applicant, CLB 7 is worth 17 points per skill, CLB 8 is 23, CLB 9 is 31 and CLB 10 or more is 34, so up to 136 points. CLB 9 is CELPIP 9, or IELTS General Training 8.0 in listening and 7.0 in the other skills.
How many points is French worth?
French as a second language can add up to 24 points (22 with a partner). With NCLC 7 or more in all four French skills you also get a bonus: 50 points if your English is CLB 5 or more in all four skills, otherwise 25.
Is 40 too old for Express Entry?
No, but age points fall from 110 at 29 to 50 at 40 for a single applicant, and to 0 at 45. Candidates over 40 often make up the difference with language, Canadian experience, French or a provincial nomination.
Should I include my spouse or partner?
If your partner comes with you and is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you are scored with the partner columns: slightly fewer core points, plus up to 40 for your partner. Some couples check both ways, because either partner can be the principal applicant.
How often are Express Entry draws held?
In 2026, IRCC held several rounds most months: Canadian Experience Class, provincial nominee, French-language and occupation categories. The table above shows the latest rounds and their cut-offs.
What is the maximum CRS score?
1,200 points, but only with a provincial nomination, which alone adds 600. Without one, the most anyone can reach is 695: up to 500 core points (or 460 plus 40 for a partner), 100 for skill transferability, and 95 additional points for French, Canadian education and a sibling.
