Privacy Policy

In short

• Your voice recordings never leave your iPhone. Speech is turned into text on the device.
• If you allow AI scoring, the text of an answer, the question and your timing are sent to our server and to an AI scoring service to get your score.
• We don’t sell your data, show ads or track you across apps and websites.
• You can delete your history and your account in the app at any time.

What we collect

• Account. An anonymous user ID created when you first open the app. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us your user ID and, if you agree, your email address, which may be a private relay address.
• Practice. Your goal and test date, the text of your spoken and written answers, their scores and feedback, and the phrases you save.
• Not collected. Audio recordings, contacts, location, photos, advertising identifiers or browsing history.

How we use it

• To score your answers and give feedback.
• To back up your practice and restore it on your other devices when you sign in with Apple.
• To limit how many answers can be scored each day, so the service stays available.

Corrections and the Translate button use Apple features on your iPhone. Apple’s translation may use Apple’s servers unless you download languages for offline use; see Apple’s privacy policy.

Who we share it with

• Google Firebase (Google LLC) hosts our server, sign-in and backup in Google Cloud’s Montréal region (northamerica-northeast1).
• TypeSafe AI runs Jev, the AI model that scores answers. With your permission, it receives the text of an answer, the question and your timing, without your name or email.
• Apple handles Sign in with Apple.

We share data only to provide the app, or when the law requires it. We don’t sell it.

Your choices

• AI scoring. You choose before your first answer and can turn it off in Settings. When it’s off, nothing is sent and answers get a preview score made on your iPhone.
• Delete history. Settings → Delete practice history removes your answers, scores and phrases from your iPhone and from the backup.
• Delete account. Settings → Delete account removes your account and backup, and revokes MapleSpeak’s access to your Apple ID.
• Notifications. Daily reminders are scheduled on your iPhone and can be turned off in Settings.

Keeping and protecting data

Backed-up practice is kept until you delete it or your account. Data is encrypted in transit and stored by Google Cloud. Each account can read only its own data.

Children

MapleSpeak is meant for adults preparing for an English test and is not directed at children under 13.
