Where you can take CELPIP#
CELPIP is always taken on a computer at a test centre; there is no at-home version. You register and pay online on celpip.ca; the centres themselves don’t take registrations.

This is a snapshot. Centres open and close and new dates are added all the time, so search CELPIP’s “find a test date” page for your city before you plan around a date. CELPIP-General LS, the listening and speaking test for citizenship, is offered only in Canada.
How often CELPIP runs#
- Wednesday to Sunday only. Every one of the thousands of sittings we checked fell between Wednesday and Sunday. Saturday is the busiest day in Canada, India and Australia.
- Big cities test several times a week. In Canada and India, most large cities have sittings almost every test day, often morning and afternoon.
- Small markets test once or twice a month. In countries such as Morocco, Malaysia, Kenya or Kuwait, the next four months had only two to four dates. Missing one can mean waiting a month.
- Some places sell out. In Nigeria, 115 of the 400 listed sittings were already full. In South Africa, two of three were full. In Canada, fewer than 2% were.
Registration for a sitting closes one business day before the test, or sooner if it fills up. You can register for only one sitting within any five calendar days.
What it costs where you are#
In Canada, CELPIP-General is $299 plus tax at every centre. Outside Canada it is priced in local currency or US dollars: for example ₹15,500 in India, ₦229,000 in Nigeria, ₱10,000 in the Philippines and US$255 in the United States. Our CELPIP fee guide lists the price in every country, with tax by province, and the cost of transfers and cancellations.
How to book a CELPIP test#
- Pick the right test. CELPIP-General for permanent residence and Express Entry; CELPIP-General LS only for Canadian citizenship (in Canada).
- Search dates on celpip.ca by test type, country, region and city.
- Create a CELPIP account and register with the exact name and ID document you will bring on test day.
- Pay online. You get a confirmation email with your registration number, the centre’s address, and the date and time.
Booking for a deadline? Results take 2 to 4 business days. If you are aiming for an Express Entry draw or your results are about to expire, leave room for results and a possible retake. More in our guide to CELPIP results.
What to bring and what happens on test day#
Bring
- The original ID you registered with, valid and not expired. Photocopies, scans, expired documents, student or employee cards and health cards are not accepted.
- Your confirmation email, printed or on your phone.
For immigration purposes (PR, citizenship and the post-graduation work permit), the accepted ID is usually a passport booklet or refugee travel document. A few countries accept more:
- Canada: also a Canadian permanent resident card, a Refugee Protection Identity Document, a refugee protection claimant document or a US passport card.
- Pakistan: also a valid physical CNIC, only for tests in Pakistan.
- United Arab Emirates: also an Emirates ID.
- United States: also a US passport card.
If you registered with your passport, don’t send it away for a visa before the test. Without the same document, you won’t be let in, and there is no refund.
On the day
- Arrive 45 minutes early. Check-in closes 15 minutes before the start. Late arrivals are turned away with no refund or transfer.
- Your ID is scanned and your photo is taken; the photo appears on your score report.
- Everything except your ID goes in a locker or bag. You get a pen and notepaper at your desk.
- You will hear other people speaking and typing. That is normal, and it is worth practising speaking with background noise.
- The clock doesn’t stop for washroom breaks, so go before check-in.
Before your date#
A test date close to home is only useful if you are ready for it. Our four-week study plan shows how to use the time before your test, and the speaking and writing guides (task 1, task 2) show what each task needs on the real clock.
