For citizenship, only listening and speaking are taken. No notes are allowed during listening and speaking.

The certificate shows several scales. IRCC uses only the “Équivalence ancien score” column (reading /300, listening /360, writing and speaking /450). Entering the score out of 699 in your profile can get your application refused.
Fees, results and retakes#
- Fees: CAD 390 at Concordia University (Montréal) and Alliance française d’Edmonton (CAD 195 for listening and speaking only); McGill charges per section; MAD 2,900 at the Institut français du Maroc (summer 2026).
- Results: 1 to 10 working days according to the CCI; some centres say one to two weeks.
- Validity: 2 years. Retakes: unlimited, 20 days apart.

Using the équivalence ancien score: 249 in listening, 207 in reading and 310 in writing and speaking.
Which TEF score does IRCC use?
The “Équivalence ancien score” column on your certificate, not the score out of 699.
Do I have to take all TEF Canada parts on the same day?
Yes. The CCI says all parts must be taken the same day for the certificate to be accepted by Canadian authorities.
